Invertebrate Fossils
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill Science/Engineering/Math (01 June, 1952)
Average review score:

classic treatise covering the subjectThis is a "must-have" reference for both amateur fossil hunters and professional geologists and paleontologists in North America. Covers all major aspects of the subject. Some information a bit dated, especially that referring to graptolites and other problematica that have been worked out in the last 30 years or so. Still the best general treatment of the subject around.

Iowa
Published in Paperback by Masquerade Books (September, 1996)
Average review score:

Absolutely great readIf you're from small town Midwest and gay, this book is highly recommended. Moore has captured what it feels like to move away to the big city and then return to that town and once again feel the old bitterness, rejection and alienation. Poignant, biting and sharp. A well written expose on what it really means to go home when your real family and your natural family are two different things.

Islamic Finance: A Partnership for Growth
Published in Hardcover by Euromoney Publications PLC (1997)
Average review score:

Islamic Finance, making a headwayFrom small beginnings about thirty years ago, the global Islamic financial services industry was estimated to be holding nearly US$116 billion in assets in 1996. This total is growing at well over 10 per cent per annum. There are no thriving Islamic financial institutions in most of the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) countries. In addition, three countries - Iran, Sudan and Pakistan - have attempted economy-wide Islamisation of their banking sectors with varying degrees of success. In addition there are nascent demands for Islamic financial institutions in many parts of Africa, Central and South Asia. Philip Moore is very thorough in documenting the nature and spread of the Islamic financial market in the second part of the book. The author explicitly sets out to be non-judgmental in his approach "...(the book) is not intended to be a critique of Islamic finance and banking and it is aimed directly at the non-Islamic financier who wishes to acquaint himself with this industry." He has done an excellent job of that objective. In addition, by approaching the subject from a banking background, the author's meticulous treatment of the state of affairs in the Islamic financial market also provides a valuable backdrop for an assessment of the critical market to evolve. It is a job well done and the author should be commended for undertaking this vital task.

Itanium Rising: Breaking Through Moore's Second Law of Computing Power
Published in Paperback by Prentice Hall PTR (19 September, 2002)
Average review score:

Rising StarI'm planning an Itanium-based CRM solution for my company. This book helped me get it approved with management, and helped us reject a more expensive Sun-based sytem.
It's great to give to your managers to explain the new technology.

Jewish Women in America: An Historical Encyclopedia
Published in Hardcover by Routledge (January, 1997)
Average review score:

An amazing projectThis was an amazing bat mitzvah gift for my daughter (thanks Eve!) that was just in time to help her with her school report on Henrietta Szold. It is causing problems for me, however; this is the second night I've stayed up late reading it, even though I need my sleep. On the other hand, I now know a lot more about Gilda Radner, Judy Blume, Letty Cottin Pogrebin, Golda Meir, the Triangle Shirtwaist fire, Rosalyn Yalow, Molly Picon, Lilith (the magazine), Roseanne, how Jewish women are portayed on television, Jewish women in popular fiction.... This is an amzing project, and a fantastic set of books. I highly recommend this set to anyone who is considering it enough to be reading this.

Joe DiMaggio : Baseball's Yankee Clipper
Published in Hardcover by Greenwood Press (March, 1986)
Average review score:

great biographyOf the many biographies written about The Yankee Clipper, this is by far the most intelligent. It goes beyond the rah-rah nature of many common sports books and offers a fascinating analysis of DiMaggio's baseball career and impact on popular culture. Truly an important work and a book that should be part of any comprehensive personal baseball reference library.

Joint Attention: Its Origins and Role in Development
Published in Hardcover by Lawrence Erlbaum Assoc (May, 1995)
Average review score:

Joint Attention, Masters and DirectionsThis volume laudably views research in the area of joint attention. Jerome Bruner's fascinating Forward provides a joint referent for the entire volume, beginning with his own long-standing interest in "sharing attention", coalescing the three primary strains of research which contribute to the current understanding of joint attention, and circling back to the question "what impels children to seek joint attention with others." Dunham and Moore choose their contributors to provide a broad spectrum of theoretical and research orientations which contribute to the amassed knowledge in this area, as well as providing their own historical perspective and current themes in research. Overall the book is not only scholarly, but erudite, and well written. For anyone seeking a basic review of the concepts and research in the area of joint attention, this book fills a unique niche.

Jonathan Moore Three Plays
Published in Paperback by Theatre Communications Group (January, 2003)
Average review score:

Three Plays by Jonathan MooreI bought this book only a week ago and after reading the first of the three plays I was absolutely spell-bound and had to put the book down so that I could really digest the enourmity of what I had just read. I found it truly inspirational. I am not often left in awe of a writer's capabilities but in this first play I can honestly say that I was. His ability to make you experience the raw anger and frustration at the plight faced by Liam who is trying to drag himself out of the violent life he has lived thus so far, and the help he is getting from his girlfriend and the guidance from the priest is beautifully depicted and then the twist of fate and the cruelty of the intervention from his own family member cutting short his salvation and thinking that he was doing the right thing. Speaking of a "battle for your dignity,.. for your self respect". Jonathan Moore has the incredible capacity to sit on both sides of various fences. He can see the male and the famale side of love and caring and of an event, he can see the peaceful way out of a scenario and the violent side and in all the various facets of all the arguements he makes the reasoning sound right. He makes you feel compasionate for the misunderstood delinquent, he can make you feel angry for the fluctuating insensibilities of Jeremy in "Fall From Light". But most importantly I think, is his capacity to be able to put you, the reader, on both sides of the fence, on the aggressor's side and on the victim's, on the side of poverty and ignorance and on the side of hope and optimism and it is a rare gift in a writer, to enable you, the reader to end a piece and feel exhausted and angry and feeling the injustice of society and wanting to be able to do something to change and modify and improve the quality of life for all the individuals that share this country, this earth. I feel touched by this book and I am glad I chose this particular author and shall be looking forward to seeing and hearing of future projects that he may be involved in. Many thanks to you, as a publishing house for choosing this author. Yours sincerely, Linda Feeney P.S. I am fairly new to computers and so I am not able to make paragraphs yet so I hope the style of my letter will be overlooked but not the content. Thank you
